Is it Worth it?

Typing that headline made me remember the episode of The Office where Ryan the Temp accidently starts a fire with the toaster oven and after the fire crew comes to put it out, Dwight's all, "Tell me this one thing, Temp. Was is worth it? Was it worth it, Temp?" He then proceeds to break into a sweet modified rendition of "We Didin't Start the Fire" Billy Joel would be proud of. So funny.

Anyway...

I REALLY want to go see Maroon 5 at the Pearl but tickets are SO expensive. I think they start at like $100 each. First of all, lame that Maroon 5 thinks they are that great to charge $100-$175 a ticket for their show and second of all, lame that all ticket prices in Vegas are like twice as expensive than anywhere else. So beat. I would love to see them, but I mean, I can't think of any band that would be worth spending that much money.

Going up Logan this weekend. I'm stoked. I need Old Grist Mill NOW.

This is the new tennis racquet I purchased today. It's the same one Maria Sharapova uses. I'm not a huge fan of Sharapova, but I'm no dummy. If it's good enough for her to play with, it definitely good enough for the likes of me. It's at the pro shop getting strung and should be good to pick up tomorrow night. I can't wait.

Speaking of tennis, Andy Roddick looked good last night. I mean, he played ok, but he literally looked so good in his all black get-up. H-O-T.

I'm also really into Spoon's latest album "Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga."
I've never listened to Spoon before but I love this record.

I'm also really tempted to buy a MacBook Pro. I need a new computer and I'm not even going to pretend that the marketing geniuses over at Apple haven't sucked me in to all the hype. Those Apple stores are so hypnotic. It's like another world in there. I keep telling myself that buying one would be a great investment if I really want to start my own business. Sounds like a plan to me.

Team USA

Last night my friend Manti and I went to the Team USA vs. Virgin Islands game at the Thomas & Mack. Manti lived next door to me in the dorms my freshman year at Utah State and we've been good friends ever since. After his mission, he transferred to BYU (which I still give him crap for). Anyway, I was stoked he called to go to the game. IT was so rad. The Virgin Islands were very sad to watch, but it was cool to see all these All-Stars putting on a clinic for the surprisingly small crowd. Lots of alleyoops, crazy passes and a lot of goofing around on the bench. The best part of the night was when Kobe Bryant was getting ready to shoot 2 free throws when all of a sudden the crowd starts singing "Happy Birthday" to him (he turned 29 yesterday) He tried to compose himself, but started laughing in between shots. It was hilarious. All the players were laughing at him. It's cool to see all these guys forget about their egos for a while and have a good time playing with each other.

Me and Manti

50 Pages to go

I'll be honest, the last Harry Potter book has been a bit disappointing. I mean, it's still good, but has dragged on for about 300 pages or so. Hopefully, the last 50 pages will redeem the rest of it.

They may not know the definition of "rebuilding" but they can cook an awesome ribeye

Last week, I went out to dinner with this guy I met at church. We had the most amazing meal at N9ne at the Palms . It's a way fancy, uber-cool steakhouse that I have always wanted to try, but never had a good enough reason to blow that much money on dinner. This is where dating is actually beneficial and fun to do-when your date is a way nice guy who valets the car and orders the oysters and king crabs legs for an appetizer. These dates are worth going on and tend to produce less eye rolls after. Because at the end of the night, you may not like the dude, but at least you got a bomb meal out of it, right? I'm really not this shallow, I'm just saying it's nice to know that there are still guys out there who don't mind going a little classy on a date (a FIRST date nonetheless), who plan ahead and take the lead. It makes me feel optimistic. It's fun once in a while. (I still sound shallow. I promise I'm not)

The point to this rant is that while sitting there, enjoying my parmesean lampchops, in walks Gavin Maloof. I about choke on my Evian and kick my date to turn around. Without pointing (I am not one of those crazy celebrity-mogal gawkers. The trick is to play it cool).

"Look. It's Gavin Maloof."

"Who?"

"Gavin. Gavin Maloof. He owns the Kings."

"Uh..yeah. He also owns this hotel."

"Oh. Yeah."

I forgot the Maloofs owned the Palms. When I saw him I immediately had the urge to walk right over to him, poor myself a glass of wine and have him explain to me the reasoning behind our last draft picks. Then I thought, never mind. I don't need to hear it from Gavin Maloof that what the Kings really needed, above anything else, was another worthless, white 7 footer to match our existing worthless ,white 7 footer. Because let's be honest, what other reason could there be?

And today, after lunching with my friend Michelle and her sister Wendy (who were driving through town on their way up to Logan) and waiting for the valet to get my car, who do I see pull up to the front door of the Palms? Yes. My good friend Gavin. Who, let me just say, drives a very modest looking TEAL Cadillac Escalade with 22-inch black rims. Nothing says NBA Championship like teal opaque. I let him go, giving him the benefit of the doubt that he'd be walking into his office, getting on the phone with Theus tyring to figure out a way to get this guy in Sacramento.

Niko is still gone. The past week and a half has been the worst I can remember and it’s taken everything I have to get up in the morning and try and live my life normally. Most people don’t get how painful it’s been for me to not have Niko around with me. I’ve spent most nights crying and unable to sleep with this overwhelming sense of guilt and worry. I realize it’s a cat and I get that some people might not understand how a grown woman could be so distraught over losing a cat. That cat was basically my only friend in this city and I had come to rely on him to fill the void of what is missing in my life right now. After all the praying and fasting I’ve done, I’m also, to be quite honest, very angry with the outcome of him still being gone. I can now only hope that if the Lord won’t help me bring my cat home, he will at least be watching over him, wherever he may be. I have to believe that to have gotten through the last week. That’s all I really want to say about it.

Niko is lost again. He went outside sometime early Friday morning and never came back.

I feel sick.

The scary thing is is that he has a collar with i.d. tags on so if someone has found him by now, why wouldn't they call? Either someone has him and intends on keeping him or he is still out wandering around. I can't even think about that. I've spent hours and hours walking around my neighborhood calling for him. I put fliers in mailboxes last night, posted one by the exit to the neighborhood. I don't know what else to do.

This is the worst feeling in the world.

Dear XM Radio People,

Listen, I know you're probably incredibly busy, what with finding as much time to play Avril Lavigne as possible into your rotation, but please hear me out.

If you can't see how crappy the music is played by that punk poser Canadian import, then I don't really know if I support this company subscribing to your services anymore.

Same goes for John Mayer. Since you obviously are BFF with this dude (I can't figure out why you'd be playing him so much if you weren't) will you please pass along a message to him? Tell him that The World is not going to change. It won't. Ever. It's going to get worse, actually. No matter how many global concert series you and Bono, and Madonna and who ever put on. The world is a sucky place-get over it. Not to say your efforts are admirable. Oh they are, but let's be realistic. Do you think a starving child in some refugee camp on the outskirts of Darfur wants you plucking at your guitar in Central Park? No, he wants some food. So maybe sell your Grammies on ebay, and send the cash over, or better yet, hop in a plane and make sure he and the rest of poverty stricken Africa gets some rice to make it through another day. Get it?

Hope this correspondence finds you well.

Respectfully,

Brianne Olsen

Kidz Got Skillz

Has anyone heard about this 9 year-old boy whose been recruited by Manchester United? This is amazing.

This is so cool to me, not so much that this kid is 9 and basically taking on the entire opposing team alone. I mean yes, that is quite impressive, but I'm more shocked that one of the best soccer (football, whatever your comfortable with) is banking on an investment that is still 9 years from eligability. The European Football league's age requirement for players is 18 so this kid has a while before he's able to play in the league.
