Busines Card-design 101...

Today I worked the entire day. We are designing all this new cool print stuff for this big construction company and today I had to go on the Mac, in Adobe Illustrator (which I had ZERO idea how to use) and type all the names, phone numbers and email addresses of 70 employees...70!!! It took me about 3 hours to do that. THEN I had to go and individually select each card and resave it into PDF form and THEN compile them all into one scrollable document. It was so tedious and boring but its done and I think my boss was pleasantly surprised that I finished it all in one day cause now we can send them over the the marketing guy at the company so he can give them to his secretary so she can verify all the info. Quite the job. I figured out how to use Illustator a little today, only because I kept screwing up and had to figure out how to change it. But Mac's are cool and so is Illustrator and Photoshop, which we (well, not really me) use a lot around here. My roommate Michelle is so good at that stuff. She's a design major and rocks out these amazing houses and rooms designs like its nothing. She's very talented. I want her to decorate my house when I get one. She also works at a florist shop so shes really good at arranging flowers, so I want her to do my flowers if I ever get married too.
My eyes hurt right now and I could use a nap. But I have a lot of homework to do so that probably won't happen.

This semester needs to be over. I feel like I am drowning in a sea of deadlines and due dates. Oh, let it be done...

Back to Reality...

Well Thanksgiving has come and gone and that means back to school and back to the chaos that comes along with it. The holiday was good. My family's numbers dwindled to a sad 6 this year with Shannon staying in Provo and Jen giong down to Orange County. We had a good time though. My mom bought me some items that I needed and I got myself a rad digital camera, the one Maria Sharapova endorses. Its cool. I need to charge the battery then I will post some pictures on here.

The weeks following Thanksgiving and prior to winter break are horrible, really horrible. You have all these things, projects, assignments, papers, presentations just looming in the distance, one right after the other. Its daunting. I hate that feeling of anticipation, you know, just waiting for something to happen. I know that this time next month I will be on the beach in Mexico reading one of the 5 books I have been wanting to read but haven't had the time, but looking at what I have to do before I can go is painful. I have a 10 page research paper due, a final presentation, 1 marketing project to complete, and 3 final exams. Sick. Plus I will be working almost every night. This is going to suck.

I am also going to lose 10 pounds before I go to Mexico. I just don't want to feel like a beached whale when I am laying there so it must be done. Low/No carbs -no soda- no sugar.

Maybe having this blog as a sort of a diet diary will help motivate me.....

Maybe not.

Rise and Shout.....

This weekend my dad and I went to the BYU/Univ. of Utah football game in Provo. It was pretty fun for me mainly because BYU lost big time and I always enjoy watching their fans cry over losses. Getting to Provo was a nightmare. SO MUCH TRAFFIC. It really pissed me off too because I just don't think a place like Provo, Utah deserves traffic like that, its just not cool enough. But after it took us 2 hours to get from Salt Lake to Provo, we arrived. We sat in the first row, really good seats except the stupid photographers were in our way and we had to tolerate the stupid Cougarettes and Cheer squad....lame. BYU's cheerleaders and Cougarettes are NOT cute....and they dance like total white girls, no "flava" at all. They should work on that. BYU played pretty crappy the first half and it looked like the U would win easily, but the Cougars must have said their prayers during halftime because they made quite the comeback and forced overtime. After Utah scored in overtime, BYU couldn't do the same and they ended up losing 41-34. Too bad.
BYU fans are so funny. They think that no matter how bad their team actually is, they should still win. Their team could be terrible and BYU fans will still get all pissed off when they lose. Its really quite funny. Sometimes I just want to say "Well, what did you expect?!" My dad was a little disappointed I think, but he still had fun. It was freezing and I got so cold that I did the unthinkable and purchased a fleece BYU blanket. I was totally embarrassed when I went to the counter to pay for it. I will give it to my mom when I go home this week, cause I sure can't keep it.

Going, going, GONE!

I've been on Ebay for most of today keeping my eye on some BYU/UTAH football tickets for my dad and I. He's taking the train here.....thats right, the RAILWAY. But hey, thats Michael G. for ya....he's always wanted to do it and he's rather exicted. He's staying till wednesday and then hes driving home with me so I don't have to go myself.
Back to my auction. These tickets are on the 20 yard line on the front row so if we win them, its going to be rad. The bidding is up to $100. I am the current high bidder. The auction ends tomorrow so I am going to have to get my mom to watch them while I am school. Its going to get really intense...

Gold is the new Purple....

Can someone, anyone, tell me why the Kings are wearing those ugly gold uniforms???? Whose decision was that? The thing is is that its not like they are retro throwbacks or something, they are just simply hideous. They all look sick in them! Especially Peja....gold is NOT his color. I am tempted to write an email to the Maloofs about this....ya know what....Done.

p.s. I am choosing to blame the teams crappy opening season on the gold uni's.
I'm going to die...

Sorry I haven't updated this thing lately. Its been rather crazy around here. Work is insane, all of it, and its just going to get worse. Because I am going o Mexico for 2 weeks during my Christmas break, I sort of have to make up that time during the first week of break. That means I have to work like 50 hours at the restaurant in 5 days.....sick. And the thing is, if it were any other job it would be a little less daunting. Serving is seriously labor intensive. I mean you're on your feet the entire time, running around, carrying heavy trays and moving tables and all of that. Its hard. I am going to die. But I keep thinking that if can just get through that week, I will come out with a lot of money and the next two weeks I will be lying on the beach....so hopefully I survive because I have never been to Mexico and really want to go.

I am not too worried about finals. I have one huge paper due that will be a little scary, but I should be able to pull off something. I also have a presentation to give, but that won't be too hard, its pretty much done.

I am also driving home for Thanksgiving....alone...sick. A certain person in my family has chosen to stay in PROVO for Thanksgiving.....fun. Whatever, I'm over it.
The drive should be boring, long and exhausting....awesome. I'm leaving on Wednesday. If you have nothing else to do, call me cause I will be in my car the ENTIRE DAY. Except when I stop in the following places: Elko, NV, Winnemucca, NV, Reno, NV and either Sacramento, CA or Redding....I'm not sure which route I am taking. I'm sure Michael G. will tell me when the time comes....by now he's got it marked on his road atlas which he will sit by all day when I drive home, calling me every 20 minutes:

"Where are you?"
"I'm in the middle of Nevada, Dad"
"Oh. Hows the weather?"
"Its fine."
"Ok. Hows your gas?"
"I am going to stop in Winnemucca and fill up."
"Ok well why don't you stop at that Flying J right off the freeway."
"Ok, Dad."

Dad's a fan of the Flying J...

Will You Be My Friend?...

Do you ever wonder what it would be like to be friends with a way famous celebrity? I have always been fascinated by celebrities and always wonder what it would be like to hang out with a couple of them, like as friends, where I have their cell phone numbers in my phone and could call them to go to lunch or see a movie. Currently, I would want to kick it with Nicole Richie and Lindsey Lohan. I love Nicole and Lindsey, I think they would be a blast to hang with. I also want to hang out with Mandy Moore, only because I truly think we would get along so well. I could see us being lifelong friends. Also the entire cast from the O.C., they would be so fun I bet, especially Seth, oops, I mean Adam Brody, he would be hysterical I'm sure. People I don't want to hang out with would include Paris Hilton and the Olsen twins....its way too much for me, it would be terribly awkward.

I am working tonight and really don't want to. I am pretty sure tonight is going to be crazy and I just don't have the energy to deal. I have a lot of school work I need to do this weekend including a research proposal for a 10 page paper that is looming in the near future. Does anyone have any good research ideas regarding post-colonial African and Caribbean literature?

No?

Me neither...

I want to see that movie Walk the Line with Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon. Its about the life of Johnny Cash. I don't listen to any of his tunes but I like Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon so I want to see it anyways.

P.S. my sister is going to the Kings game tonight and the Raiders game on Sunday. Lucky.

As some of you may or may not know, I have an older sister named Jen. Jen is married to Ryan. This is Jen's blog. Her blog is quite funny, as it desribes her everyday accounts with her husband, cats and tivo. Jen's blog has inspired many others to start blogging, something I am sure she is proud of.
Christmas is Apparently Coming, Everyone...

It's November right? Like barely November...then what is with all the Christmas hoopla already??? Maybe its a Utah thing or maybe my family just does the holiday season a little differently, but right now the city of Logan is buzzing with the Christmas vibe- its out of control. The restaurant that I work at is toe-up in holiday decor. My boss actually hired a designer to do all the Christmas decorating in the restaurant... and boy did he ever. This designer pretty much went crazy and now Hamilton's Steak and Seafood could second as Santa's crib. But even though he bought Pier 1 out, the place does look quite festive and pretty, but why so early, dude? Does anyone care about Thanksgiving anymore? Let me just say that the Olsen's did the holiday season a bit more leisurely. Christmas season did not start until after Thanksgiving. Like, no one even talked about Christmas until Thanksgiving was over. No stocking was hung, no gift was purchased until the Thanksgiving festivities ended. Maybe its because Thanksgiving was a big deal in my family. I am pretty sure its the favorite holiday with everyone in the fam, mainly because Thanksgiving meant a lot of exciting things that we just DID NOT get during the regular year including: Grandma's jello with the whipped cream that, now and forever, NO ONE will get quite right and Lisa O's fairy rolls that, I'll be honest Mom, in the past couple years have been a little sub-par, but still, its one of those things you look forward to and except at Thanksgiving. Also getting to see my whole family is the best part about Thanksgiving. Even though some things have changed over the years, I still look forward to Thanksgiving and hate the fact that it gets looked past the day after Halloween. So I would suggest everyone just calm down, leave the the Christmas stuff boxed up for just a couple more weeks and pass me a piece of pumpkin pie please, with cool whip.

Cameos and Hummdingers...

Today was Sunday and the most productive thing I did all day was win a game of Cranium. If you've never played Cranium, you really should. It really is so fun. Cranium tests your skills on several levels, including humming, acting, spelling and clay molding. My favorite category is Star Performer. Star Performer is the category where you have to act something out, kind of like charades. I also like the straight up trivia questions, except tonight I was really mad about a question my team got asking us the definition of "Boreal". One of the answer options was "a term regarding the north." Another option was "a reflection of light." I was really excited we got this question because I thought I knew the answer. I knew about the Aurora Borealis Effect, which is a crazy thing that happens when small particles on the earth interact with our planets magnetic field and the sky lights up with all these awesome colors. So instinctively I chose the answer B: a reflection of light. Well....I was wrong. The answer that was listed as correct was A) a term regarding the north. I immediately rebuffed. This question should be thrown out, it is completely misleading. Both of those answers could realistically be correct. I really am tempted to write an email to the Cranium people regarding this question. Seriously. Although my team missed that stupid Boreal question, we did persevere and come out victorious in the long run.

In other weekend news, I dyed my hair a chocolate velvet color. Well, thats what the box said but its pretty much black. I also bought a cool new wireless mouse and the Kanye West album. Another weekend not totally wasted...

Ok, apparently I offended some people with my previous post regarding English majors. First of all, I want to clarify that I meant to emphasize the annoying nature of many UTAH STATE UNIVERSITY English majors. Secondly, I am not saying that just because you chose English as your academic pathway it means that you are obnoxious. Thirdly, I really have no room to talk, being an English minor. All I am saying is that some people annoy me and those people sometimes happen to be English majors.

p.s. Sorry for the grammar/spelling mistakes, like I have the time to copy edit every prepositional phrase I write...

Ok so I decided to follow in the footsteps of my sister Jen and create my own blog. Its taken a while to get this thing up. For some reason my page wasn't working, but it is now. However, I just want to say that I have been blogging on another site for a few months, not very freguently, but blogging nonetheless. This site is way cooler though and is entirely centered around blogging so I converted. So, here we go.

Today I realized how much I hate English majors. I have always known I hated English majors, but today it just hit me as to how much. This is why:

Enlgish majors, well Utah State English majors, have the irritating tendency to show everyone how much they know....about ANYTHING literature-related. They will raise their hands and make the most irrelevant comments, throwing in some random fact about Plato or Shakespeare or Kaftka. For example today in my African and Caribbean Post-Colonial Literature class, we were discussing a play by Wole Soyinka called "The Trials of Brother Jero" (its really funny, read it, its not that long at all) Anyways, we were discussing the tone of the play and how it was a satire of Christian leaders. Out of nowhere this girl raises her hand and begins talking about the similarities between this play and Artistole's opinion of tragedy. Ok. First of all, why are you bringing this up? We just said this play was a satire....in no way is this play in the realm of tragedy. Secondly, no one cares that you know freaking Aristotles opinions of tragedy. My hell. They are all the same. I can seriously pick an English major out of a crowd....no joke. They have this vibe, this egotistical "smarter than thou" attitude that just drips off them. I can't stand it. Luckily this is my last English class of my college career and I couldn't be happier.
Is this thing working cause I really don't think it is.
